In fact, William Carrier INVENTED what he termed ‘manufactured weather’ in 1902. He founded the company that bears his name in 1915, in New York.

Carrier Company Facts — -Operates in 172 countries on 6 continents -North American operations include 200+ distributors and 20,000 dealers -Currently employs 45,000 persons -Operates 78 manufacturing facilities -Installed equipment now operates in the Sistine chapel, Great Hall of the People (Beijing), U.S. Library of Congress, and Mount Vernon.

Facts on Carrier Heat Pumps — -Infinity Series Carrier Heat Pumps: Up to 19 SEER Rating; Up to 9.5 HSPF -Performance Series Carrier Heat Pumps: Up to 15 SEER; Up to 8.5 HSPF -Comfort Series Carrier Heat Pumps: Up to 15 SEER; Up to 8.5 HSPF

What is a heat pump? Well, Carrier heat pumps are devices used to heat and/or air-condition a building. Most conventional furnaces heat a room by adding heat – they burn fuel, such as natural gas, or wood, or use an electric heating element. By contrast, Carrier heat pumps transfer or move the heat from someplace else.

Carrier heat pumps that are used as heating devices take heat from a low-temperature source and expel it somewhere else in the building, raising the temperature.

Carrier heat pumps can also be used to cool — and your home probably already contains one: a refrigerator. It contains machinery that cools (removes heat) from the interior of the refrigerator, keeping the food stored inside cool. Carrier heat pumps do the same thing, just on a much larger scale. They take heat out of the room to be cooled and transfer it to the air outside or to the ground.

What is included in a typical installation of Carrier heat pumps ? –A thermostat – this controls the operation of the heat pump system as a whole. Today’s thermostats are digital, and very easy to operate. –An air handler – this circulates the air throughout your home –The heat pump unit itself – this unit is responsible for the transfer of the heat from one location to another –Air cleaner – filters out pollution and dust as the air circulates.

The price you will pay for various Carrier heat pumps will depend on the size of the unit you need, the type (air or ground source), optional units attached to it and whether it is a single purpose or dual purpose unit (heating, cooling, or both).

One thing to note: you cannot save money on new Carrier heat pumps by trying to do the installation yourself. You MUST use a trained professional. NO EXCECPTIONS! This is because they must use specialized techniques for installation and special tools not available to the non-specialist. Since all heating and air conditioning units are expensive, make sure any Carrier heat pumps you purchase are installed by qualified persons.

Good luck with your new Carrier heat pump!

For years and years and years. And they are not just assembled collections of parts, but carefully crafted heat pump systems, incorporating the latest engineering designs and technological advances.

Trane heat pumps are unique, one-of-a-kind products, professionally engineered to provide years and years of trouble-free service. It is for this reason that Trane heat pumps are one of the most often chosen manufacturers of heat pumps. Trane heat pumps have been installed all over the world, as well as in the USA. Very few businesses, organizations, and private consumers have not heard of the Trane brand name. I am sure that you are one of them. If you are looking for more information, specifically on Trane heat pumps, the following may be helpful—

Trane heat pumps are one of the leaders in this industry, and their models include the following: -Ultra efficiency units: XL19i, XL16i -Super efficiency units: XL15i, XL14i -High efficiency units: XR14, XR13 -Standard efficiency units: XB13

The efficiency rating of Trane heat pumps are: 6.8–9.85 (HPSF); 10.00–17.65 (SEER).

What would a typical installation of Trane heat pumps include? –A thermostat – to control the operation of the heat pump system as a whole –An air handler – to circulate the air –The heat pump unit itself – responsible for the transfer of the heat from one location to another –Air cleaner – as its name indicates, it filters out pollution and dust as the air circulates.

Of course, specific equipment installed depends on the exact Trane heat pump model selected for purchase. Labor charges (for installation) and warranty chosen will also affect the final purchase price. Many, many local dealers offer Trane heat pumps.

For those not familiar with them, Trane heat pumps are devices that ‘move’ heat – from one location to another. A refrigerator does this – in reverse from a heat pump. A refrigerator makes the interior icebox cold by removing heat; Trane heat pumps warm the air in a room by removing the ‘heat’ from another source – either the air surrounding the unit (air-source) or from the ground (ground-source or geothermal heat pumps).

Trane heat pumps are products that are renowned for their quality, smooth, trouble-free operation, and efficiency. Literally thousands and thousands of Trane heat pumps are in operation today, in all sizes of homes and buildings, in many different climates and environmental conditions.

Trane is a division of American Standard Companies. A major facility is located in St. Paul, MN.

Trane equipment (and this also includes Trane heat pumps) is currently installed in many schools, governmental facilities, healthcare complexes, colleges and universities, large corporations (American Honda, Motorola, Lucent Technologies), laboratories, hotels, motels, casinos, airports, general office complexes, and retail shopping outlets.

This includes their well-known line of Goodman heat pumps.

Founder: Harold Goodman – a former AC contractor.

Their goals/philosophy: High quality and very reliable products; lower cost; trouble-free installation.

Products include: AC, Goodman heat pump, gas furnaces, packaged Goodman heat pumps, air quality products, air handlers and coils.

Warranties available: Standard and specialized component warranties, as well as extended service plans.

Goodman heat pump systems: 16 SEER SSZ16, 14 SEER SSZ14, 14 SEER GSH14, 13 SEER GSH13, GSH Commercial and international products.

Goodman heat pump – packaged heat pump products include: Dedicated Horizontal 13 SEER GPH13H, Multi-position 13 SEER GPH 13M, Multi-position 13 SEER GPH13 M Commercial, and international products.

What type of equipment is included with the typical Goodman heat pump that is installed today? The total package will include: a compressor (motor) unit, designed to operate very efficiently, an air coil (for condensation – larger than you might find on other types of equipment), the unit will also need a fan and a motor to operate it (again it should be efficient), and also a heat-exchanger.

Heat pumps – and this includes Goodman heat pumps – will also make use of a ‘refrigerant’ – a substance that aids in the transfer of heat. Refrigerants are usually a gas, and cause condensation to occur when they pass through the air coil. Most people are familiar with the gas/air coil system used in most refrigerators, and similar technology is used in Goodman heat pumps.

One of the most amazing things about geothermal heat pumps – and Goodman heat pumps include the geothermal heat pump type – is that they tend to be more efficient to operate than the other types. Why is this? Because, in the winter, the temperature of the soil is relatively warm. (Goodman geothermal heat pumps have the ground – or groundwater -as their heat source.) The air source heat pump, in contrast, must move heat from cold outside air to the inside, and it must work much harder to do this.

Goodman brand products (which includes the Goodman heat pump line) received the 2005 innovation award

The Goodman CLQ 14 SEER AC was chosen as a ‘Best Buy’ but Consumer’s Digest.

Goodman heat pump distribution network is extensive – over 700 distribution points service the public. Company-operated distribution centers are located in Arizona, Nevada, Florida, Texas, California. Goodman heat pumps are available for purchase through these as well as other outlets, and local contractors.

Goodman Global, Inc. is a publicly traded company on the NY Stock Exchange. Ticker symbol: GGL.

These ductless minisplit systems are innovative, efficient and very quiet. Fujitsu has been a leader in ductless technology which is becoming more cost-effective and popular every year.

Facts About Fujitsu

Fujitsu Limited has headquarters in Tokyo, Japan where the company was founded in 1923. Fujitsu began in the telecommunications industry, helping to rebuild Tokyo’s communication infrastructure after the Great Kanto Earthquake the same year. Currently, Fujitsu has more than 170,000 employees and is the world’s third largest provider of IT services. It has been an innovation leader for decades in telecommunications, computers and the HVAC industry.

Fujitsu Heat Pumps

All of the heat pump series are made under the Halcyon brand name. Here is an overview of the heat pump systems.

Fujitsu Halcyon Hybrid Flex Inverter Series: This is the top of the line series. It gives you the opportunity to connect up to 8 indoor air handler units to the single outdoor condensing unit. It works with wall-mounted, cassette in ceiling and slim duct indoor units. The outdoor unit is the Fujitsu AOU48RLXFZ. Top efficiency ratings are 17 SEER and 9.8 HSPF.

Fujitsu Wall Mounted Series: The air handlers mount high on a wall and offer capacity up to 12,000 BTU capacity. They can be used in systems with up to 4 air handlers. The outdoor units for this series are the AOU9RLFW, AOU12FLFW, 9R2, and 12R2. Top efficiencies are 23 SEER and 11 HSPF.

Fujitsu Cassette Series: These in-ceiling air handlers show only the grill, for a very discreet look in any room. The outdoor units are the 18RCLX, 24RCLX, 36RCLX, and 42CRLX. The numbers correspond to the number of BTUs they deliver. Top ratings are 16 SEER and 8.5 HSPF.

Fujitsu Universal Floor Ceiling Series: This air handler can be mounted near the floor or near the ceiling, but not free standing. Two sizes of outdoor units are available, the 17,800 BTU 18 RULX and the 22,200 BTU 24RULX. Maximum efficiencies are 16 SEER and 8.5 HSPF.

Fujitsu Large Ceiling Series: These air handlers are designed for single large zones and have 34,000 BTU capacity. The outdoor unit is the 36RSLX with a maximum efficiency of 14 SEER and 8.5 HSPF.

Fujitsu Heat Pump Prices

The price of the Fujitsu Halcyon heat pump system you choose will depend on the capacity of the unit and the number of indoor units it serves. Small, single zone units can cost less than $1,000 while the largest systems cost more than $6,0000.

Summary

Fujitsu heat pumps offer an excellent alternative to central heat pump systems. They are ideal for new construction or for retrofitting older construction where re-doing the duct work for an updated system is not a good option. They work well in both residential and commercial settings.

Mitsubishi heat pumps are some of the most efficient, technologically innovative products available for heating and cooling. The popular minisplit systems are making ductless heat pumps a viable options in homes and businesses all over the world. With efficiency levels higher than central heat pumps can provide, and a philosophy of heating and cooling zones for greater efficiency, more buildings are being equipped with a ductless heat pump system every year.

Facts About Mitsubishi

The full name of the company that makes innovative heat pumps is the Mitsubishi Electric Corporation. It was founded in 1921 in Kobe, Japan. The company’s first products were electric engines for ocean-going vessels, a truly revolutionary idea. It branched out into consumer products such as electric fans as well as a variety of commercial endeavors. Since the 1960s, Mitsubishi has been making air cooling and heating products. The company has been on the leading edge of environmentally friendly technology since for more than 50 years. Today, Mitsubishi makes an impressive array of home electronic appliances and other products. The company employs more than 100,000 people in 35 countries around the world with net sales over $30 billion per year. Mitsubishi headquarters are in Tokyo, Japan.

Mitsubishi Heat Pumps

Mitsubishi has long been on the cutting edge of minisplit heat pump systems. They offer an exciting alternative to central HVAC systems which require duct work throughout the building and heating or cooling the entire building, not just rooms being used. A major hurdle was making the units affordable and Mitsubishi and other manufacturers of ductless minisplit heat pumps have done that.

A ductless heat pump consists of an outside unit known as a condensing unit and one to eight indoor air handlers that serve specific rooms or zones. A single small hole is made in the wall of each zone to accommodate a bundle that includes an electrical line, a refrigerant line and a condensate hose. The hole is covered by the air handler which is located high on the wall or on/in the ceiling in most cases. The air handler contains a coil through which heat is transferred and a small fan to distribute heated and cooled air. Mitsubishi covers most of the ductless minisplit heat pump systems with a 7-year compressor warranty and a 5-year parts warranty.

Mitsubishi MXZ Series Slim Jim Heat Pumps: This is the most popular heat pump series made by Mitsubishi. Models come in different sizes to accommodate from 2-8 indoor air handlers. Efficiency levels include efficiency ratings up to 26 SEER. Capacity available ranges from 18,000 BTU which is equivalent to a 1.5 ton heat pump, to 54,000 BTU which is equivalent to a 4.5 ton heat pump.

Mitsubishi City S Series Heat Pumps: Designed for larger homes and light commercial settings, these units offer efficiency levels up to 22 SEER. Available in units of 36,000 and 48,000 BTU, the Mitsubishi S Series heat pumps can serve up to 8 rooms or zones.

Mitsubishi Air Handlers: The company makes multiple air handler series that work with their MXZ Slim Jim and City S Series heat pumps. They give you the freedom to mount the units in the ceiling, suspended from the ceiling or on the wall. Free-standing floor air handlers are also available. These air handlers include the P Series, S Series, M Series, Fixed-Speed Series and the Zubadan Series.

Mitsubishi Heat Pump Prices

The Slim Jim and City S Series minisplit heat pumps are priced very competitively with standard split system heat pumps. The least expensive are small-capacity heat pumps with a 2 indoor air handlers. They cost less than $1,200. Large-capacity systems with multiple indoor units will cost more than $5,000.

Summary

Minisplit heat pumps are growing in popularity and Mitsubishi continues to be an industry leader in design and efficiency. If the space you want to heat and cool does not have a central HVAC system, a Mitsubishi ductless system is an outstanding choice. They are also being chosen more often for heating and cooling both new additions and entire new homes and buildings.

Bryant heat pumps are among the most efficient, high-performance models in the industry. Always on the cutting edge, the company’s products deserve to be compared with top models from other industry leaders like Carrier, Lennox and American Standard. With a large product lineup, there is a heat pump for every need, including Energy Star models with outstanding performance and lower-cost models that offer exceptional value.

Facts About Bryant

Charles Bryant was a true entrepreneur in America’s industrial age. He began making furnaces in 1904 and the company he founded has been on the cutting edge of development ever since. Bryant is now a wholly-owned subsidiary of United Technologies, the same company that owns Carrier and Payne. Bryant makes residential and commercial HVAC equipment of all types including heat pumps, central air conditioners, furnaces, air purification systems, air exchangers and more.

Bryant Heat Pumps

Bryant makes 3 lines of heat pumps in order to offer something to each consumer. All of the models are Energy Star rated and will help cut heating and cooling bills significantly when replacing an older heat pump. Bryant high-efficiency heat pumps are also popular with homeowners committed to green technology. Bryant backs most of its heat pumps with a very solid 10-year compressor and parts warranty. Here’s an overview of the Bryant heat pumps.

Bryant Evolution Heat Pumps: With efficiencies as high as 19 SEER and 9.5 HSPF, these are among the most efficient heat pumps in the industry. They use less than half the energy of heat pumps just 15-20 years old. These 2-stage heat pumps are ideal for keeping the indoor climate very comfortable in every season.

Bryant Preferred Heat Pumps: These models have the same high quality found in the Evolution Series but slightly lower efficiency. You’ll find a mix of single- and 2-stage models to meet your needs. All Bryant Preferred heat pumps are Energy Star rated with efficiency levels as high as 16.5 SEER and 9.5 HSPF.

Bryant Legacy Heat Pumps: Many brands offer a low-price line that represents a significant drop-off in quality. That’s not the case with the Legacy Line. These are well-built, single-stage heat pumps that offer Energy Star efficiency up to 16 SEER and 9.0 HSPF.

Bryant Heat Pump Prices

The Evolution heat pumps have fairly high prices due to their efficiency and performance. The Preferred Series heat pumps are priced somewhat higher than many brands’ middle series, but they are also more efficient and of higher quality. The Bryant Legacy Line heat pumps are competitively priced and some of the best entry-level heat pumps on the market.

The exact price of the Bryant heat pump you select will be determined by the size of the model, how efficient it is and whether it is a single-stage or a 2-stage model. For Bryant’s least expensive units, you’ll pay less than $2,000 while large-capacity Evolution heat pumps may cost more than $5,000.

Installation costs will include extra materials as well as labor costs. Be sure to get multiple estimates in order to find the lowest prices from competent installers.

Summary

Bryant heat pumps are among the highest-rated in the industry for quality, performance and energy efficiency. When you want a reliable heat pump from one of the most trusted names in the business, a Bryant heat pump is definitely worth considering.

Payne heat pumps offer some of the best prices and value in the industry. Payne doesn’t enjoy the household name recognition that Carrier or Trane does, so the company works hard to grow market share through lower prices and high quality. Currently, there are just 2 Payne heat pump models, though that is expected to change as the company grows.

Facts About Payne

The Payne Company has actually been in business since the 1930s. It began as a large, regional supplier of HVAC equipment in America’s growing West and Southwest regions. Soon Payne was making their own oil and gas furnaces. As air conditioning became viable for residential use, Payne started building central AC units and later, heat pumps too. In the 1970s, Carrier bought the company, maintaining the Payne brand name and the commitment to low-cost, high-value heat pumps, air conditioners and furnaces.

Payne Heat Pumps

As mentioned, Payne currently makes 2 heat pump models. Both are single-stage heat pumps. They are popular with homeowners in mild climates who don’t need a high-efficiency heat pump. They sell well to consumers who desire lower equipment costs. They are also a top choice of rental property owners and homeowners who need to replace a heat pump before putting their home up for sale. Here’s a look at the Payne heat pumps.

Payne PH15NB: This model achieves Energy Star status with 15 SEER and 8.2 HSPF performance. Payne backs it with a very good 10-year parts and compressor warranty.

Payne PH13NB: This is not an Energy Star model, with 13 SEER and 7.7 HSPF. This single-stage heat pump comes with a 10-year warranty which is very good for standard-efficiency heat pumps.

Payne Heat Pump Prices

With a goal of capturing the entry-level, high-value consumer, Payne keeps prices very low. They make heat pumps from 1.5 ton to 5.0 ton capacity, so size is the major factor in the price. A 1.5 ton model can cost less than $1,500 while the largest model will be less than $3,000 for just the unit. Installation and additional materials are extra.

Summary

If you are in the market for a low-cost heat pump that is made with quality parts and backed by a good warranty, a Payne heat pump might be just what you’re looking for. They offer a good combination of value and reliability.
