Open the front panel to discover that it is insulated with fiberglass with the fiberglass side past the air filter, that is what causes the fine fiberglass particulate in the house. Ask yourself what kind of corporate thinking insulates a unit knowing the fiberglass particles are going directly into the dwelling.
The evaporator coil leak has been repaired twice in 6 months. Interestingly, when the unit ices up due to low Freon the milting ice is channelized outside the unit as well as inside to drain. Thus leading to hardwood floor damage.
It doesn’t save on energy as it has to run far longer then an AC unit.
All in all, it is a poorly engineered unit that is too expensive to install or maintain, it’s performance is abysmal.

We first bought a Florida Heat Pump in 1970, right when they were first produced. We were building
a new house, but the area at that time was semi-rural, with no gas or water available. So had to
put in a well, which worked real well for the FHP at that time, plus we got a lot of environmental
discounts which were offered.. The system worked well for us until the compressor went in 1995, so we
bought a new FHP unit. We have had some minor problems with the new one, but it does keep
our electric bill low. This year (2021) we have had issues with water leaks and the unit always
coming on auxiliary heat, which our FHP specialist can’t seem to figure out the problem. After
26 years with the second unit, we are probably ready for a third new unit, but am very concerned
about BOSH now producing the FHP units, so we will be doing some real research and looking
at other options in addition to FHP.

My first water based heat pump was a Fredrick (no longer made) it lasted 20 years. My second is a FHP and it has been installed for 15 years. The first 12 years when great, but then leak developed in the air coil (similar to others comments above), but I had it replaced hoping for another 5-10 years of operation. However I have had continued problems the last three years with the compressor needing a extra capacitor and now another slow leak and a wire failure to the high pressure sensor, and work on it produced another leak. My maintenance costs over the last three years have been more than my power costs. It is time to replace the unit. I read that units can last 25 years. Not my experience with a FHP.

Have had two FHP 4ton units; both bought from FHP before Bosh. The first one lasted from 1980 until 2000, the second lasted until 2000 .A short in the compressor connector power supply caused the compressor to burn out. Compressor was replaced in 2005 and it lasted until September 2020. Seems to me that if Bosh could fix the problem with their evaporators, the new ones would be as good as the old ones.

These units Suck! I`ve just installed 5 of them 15 tons each, having issues with all of them! Very poorly made, leaks are notorious, controls suck! STAY AWAY FROM THESE UNITS!

Short and simple. I have had 4 units for 9 years and they are absolute junk. I have spent thousands of dollars on maintenance and parts. Bosch customer service is pathetic. I am currently waiting on a condenser for 3 weeks that I am paying for and either my basement floods or I don’t have air in July. Do not buy anything owned by Bosch!!!! My HVAC contractor can’t get any satisfaction from them and agrees since Bosch bought FHP it’s been a nightmare. Buyer beware!!!!!!!!

I use these units currently in high rise buildings, we have 559 units, and we replace about 4-6 per month. There is a 50% or greater failure due to refrigerant leaks, usually in the first few months. DO NOT BUY THESE UNITS UNTIL BOSCH FIXES THEIR PROBLEMS, my customers are spending between 1-2k to repair these pieces of crap, when they are less than 2-3 years old, NO ECCUSE FOR THIS FHP/BOSCH !!!!!

This is the 3rd FHP since 1981 and this one was installed in 2010. June 2019 I will need another replacement. There does not seems to be a brand of water source heat pump that is dependable. I am at lost as what to do?
