We are replacing our 5 1/2 year old Rheem heat pump after it stopped working. We paid for one costly repair that lasted 2 months and decided not to throw more good money after bad. Since Rheem won’t honour their warranty we decided to bite the bullet and buy a new heat pump. Guess what brand it isn’t?

Our mechanical contracting company was founded in 1952. Since that time we have installed thousands upon thousands gas furnaces, oil furnaces, a/c units, and heat pumps, including Trane, Carrier, Lennox, and Rheem. Rheem is simply outstanding!

Newer system high efficiency system on second evaporator coil( original was copper now aluminum), part under warranty labor bill not, within a year the compressor locked up needed replacement. Again part under warranty labor not. We now have paid a large labor bill on a new system that amounts to a large portion of the original cost. As i type we are running emergency heat for the next 10 to 14 days.

Unit was touted as a premium unit at a premium price supposed to last 10 years. I am on year 3. It has been noisy from day one especially the outside unit. Now I’m just one of the many victims of poor quality and lack of concern by Rheem/Ruud. Issues with reverse valve cracking/leaking (known issue to Rheem/Ruud as are most of their quality issues) Expensive repair on relatively new unit due to cheap parts. Hate to spend the money on such a lemon as the reviews say there will be more problems with the coils and leaks

Had this installed by a Rheem dealer in 07/12. Purchased it based on the sale pitch that it had a 10 year warranty. Found out today that Rheem does not stand by that UNLESS it was registered online within 60 days of install station. We were not informed of that because I would have done that. Would have thought the dealer would have done this. All he gave us was the paper and said hold on to this. I have receipts and I am the original owner. Too bad they said!!! Never buy a Rheem!

15 seer installed in 2009, now indoor coil leaking, no warranty, has had slow leak almost from time of installation, was told that Rheem is known for leaking. Great, pay service calls and Freon no repairs because that’s what they do, leak. Now losing 5lbs in 30 days, will Not replace with a Rheem

when it’s not leaking , it works good. 1 1/2 years from install by rheem dealer and the leaks started. leaks from the line set, leaks from the inside coil. slow leaks from system. and fast leaks from the wallet. system is only 3 years old. Never again! 4 ton rheem

Rheem agreed it is bad unit and it is under warranty. but Rheem request consumer to find a contractor to do the installation. The contractor has to pay the new unit up front and pickup the unit from a distributor located out of the state. No contractor want to do the job. Therefore Rheem’s warranty is a fake warranty. Don’t buy any Rheem products!

I was sold this high priced piece of crap by a local dealer who thought he was doing me a favor. I wish I could give it all minus 5’s. I’m sure he does too. I’ve had it for about 5 yrs and it has been worked on probably 15 times- $2500-3000 not to mention the down time and aggravation. NEVER A RHEEM PRODUCT AGAIN, EVER!!!!!
