Fujistu Heat Pumps Fujitsu heat pumps are made in 5 different series that give you options. These ductless minisplit systems are innovative, efficient and very quiet. Fujitsu has been a leader in ductless technology which is becoming more cost-effective and popular every year.

Facts About Fujitsu

Fujitsu Limited has headquarters in Tokyo, Japan where the company was founded in 1923. Fujitsu began in the telecommunications industry, helping to rebuild Tokyo’s communication infrastructure after the Great Kanto Earthquake the same year. Currently, Fujitsu has more than 170,000 employees and is the world’s third largest provider of IT services. It has been an innovation leader for decades in telecommunications, computers and the HVAC industry.

Fujitsu Heat Pumps

All of the heat pump series are made under the Halcyon brand name. Here is an overview of the heat pump systems.

Fujitsu Halcyon Hybrid Flex Inverter Series: This is the top of the line series. It gives you the opportunity to connect up to 8 indoor air handler units to the single outdoor condensing unit. It works with wall-mounted, cassette in ceiling and slim duct indoor units. The outdoor unit is the Fujitsu AOU48RLXFZ. Top efficiency ratings are 17 SEER and 9.8 HSPF.

Fujitsu Wall Mounted Series: The air handlers mount high on a wall and offer capacity up to 12,000 BTU capacity. They can be used in systems with up to 4 air handlers. The outdoor units for this series are the AOU9RLFW, AOU12FLFW, 9R2, and 12R2. Top efficiencies are 23 SEER and 11 HSPF.

Fujitsu Cassette Series: These in-ceiling air handlers show only the grill, for a very discreet look in any room. The outdoor units are the 18RCLX, 24RCLX, 36RCLX, and 42CRLX. The numbers correspond to the number of BTUs they deliver. Top ratings are 16 SEER and 8.5 HSPF.

Fujitsu Universal Floor Ceiling Series: This air handler can be mounted near the floor or near the ceiling, but not free standing. Two sizes of outdoor units are available, the 17,800 BTU 18 RULX and the 22,200 BTU 24RULX. Maximum efficiencies are 16 SEER and 8.5 HSPF.

Fujitsu Large Ceiling Series: These air handlers are designed for single large zones and have 34,000 BTU capacity. The outdoor unit is the 36RSLX with a maximum efficiency of 14 SEER and 8.5 HSPF.

Fujitsu Heat Pump Prices

The price of the Fujitsu Halcyon heat pump system you choose will depend on the capacity of the unit and the number of indoor units it serves. Small, single zone units can cost less than $1,000 while the largest systems cost more than $6,0000.

Summary

Fujitsu heat pumps offer an excellent alternative to central heat pump systems. They are ideal for new construction or for retrofitting older construction where re-doing the duct work for an updated system is not a good option. They work well in both residential and commercial settings.

We had a Fujitsu minisplit installed in the addition we had put on our home and its worked great. A bit higher priced than some o the other ductless systems we looked at, but worth it to us.

Have had for last 2 years we live in Eastern Canada – 20 ambient temperature outside and still keeps home at 23 degrees c is a 12000 btu split system. I have recouped my investment the first winter. Oil furnace has not come on in 2 years.

Queit and efficient, if a bit expensive. Worked great for 18 months, then quit. Parts were still under warranty but labor ($700) was not. Supposedly some kind of bimetal corrosion caused a leak. Worked 6 weeks and has quit again. Waiting on service. We’ll see, but at this point I cannot recommend.

When the system works it is quiet and efficient. I have had multiple leaks, replaced a fan motor, and had 3 inside condenser units leak and be replaced. Fujitsu customer service was of no help. I spent thousands of dollars on service on a unit in 4 1/2 years on an expensive system I thought would be good. I am very disappointed in this Fujitsu unit. I advise you to steer clear of Fujitsu.

    Fujitsu Halcyon Model # AOU24RLXFZ.

I previously believed that your products were top of the line. I am sorry to say that I no longer believe this is the case.

I had my motor mounting bracket and fan replaced this week on this unit that is 4 years old.. This occurred after the fan hit the cowling of the unit. Fujuitsu provided a new reinforced mounting bracket replacement and fan for free , however, the labour cost was $99.75. The contractor who repaired our unit said Fujuitsu recognized that the original mounting bracket was defective but it was not willing to cover the labour costs because there is not a recall. To make this matter worse, my neighbour who had recommended Fujuitsu to me and has an older model had exactly the same mount as mine and it was replaced and labour costs covered under a Fujuitsu recall.

What I find morally and corporately unconscionable are: Fujuitsu knew that these mounting brackets were defective but continued to install them in later models; and secondly, its failure to fully stand behind its product despite the obvious

Broken all the time! Do not think I have been able to use the unit consecutively for one week. It’s a biggest piece of junk I’ve ever had. I spent almost $7000 on it! I hate the unit and wish I could get my money back only owned for 6 months

    • Iceman says:

What kind of job did the installer do ? Most problems are installation related not equipment. 6 months, this should be free parts and free labor. I supply free labor on all instalatons for 1 year. Installation to be done correctly are sometimes a big pain in the butt as line lenght is important but does not look good. I found out that lines shorter than 15 ft do not work well. Good luck in the future.

Most installation companies offer 1 year warranty on the labor. The problem with these 27 junk units are the coils all are failing leaking right about 2 years.and getting parts takes forever. Labor is about 500.00 per unit to replace the indoor coils. Honestly, if we are having that many bad coils there should definitely be some sort of recall and Fujitsu should pay the labor! Maybe its time to form a class action suit against Fujitsu?

JUST AS AN FYI…..DO NOT BUY ANY FUJITSU PRODUCTS…..Had several problems with 2 of my mini split units….both were defective and because of Fujitsu’s so called warranty, I had to spend a lot money on repairs. Fujitsu DOES NOT STAND behind their products and there is no customer service at their New Jersey Headquarters. DO NOT BUY FUJITSU.

Paul tpt, I live in Nova Scotia as well and my futitsu mini split 24000 is a nightmare. It is 2 degrees Celsius now outdoors and my heat pump goes on and off all the time . In a 12 minute cycle it goes off 3 times and the tempature will go down by about 20 degrees and it will slowing sped up and the the temp goes to 90 f . The speed goes to slow and then blasts every 3 minutes even if on medium speed. Does yours do this. Mine is 2 years old. How old is yours . If yours does not do this can you tell me your installer as need some help . Thanks Paul , Mark

I bought this $8000 unit at the recommendation of the salesman of one of the most reputable dealers in Town. Shortly after it was installed it failed to work repeatedly blowing fuses. While repairman worked on it, it literally exploded somewhere in the interior like a gun shot. Talking hours on the phone back east the repairmen finally gave up and replaced the whole compressor unit. Three years later it has lost all its refrigerant and will not cool or heat. Two hours with a repairman cussing the unit and placement I will probably face an $8000 loss of a foul tasting lemon. Don’t buy anything from this company.

Live in Nova Scotia. Had the 18000 BTU unit for 2 months. Heats our 12 year old open concept house vary well. I bit disappointed in the temperature control. House will go down to 68-69 degrees before the unit comes on which is set at 72. Once the unit would not turn off and ran until we shut it off and room reached 78 degrees. One other time unit would not turn on and deliver heat, Had to turn it up to 74 to get it started. The installer doesn’t seem to be to concerned and I don’t have much faith in him.

Installed a 1 zone mini split in the bedroom of my off grid solar powered home 5 years ago. Super efficient and trouble free Gets heavy summer cooling use and moderate winter heating. Had to install a 120 to 240 auto former to power it but worth it. No issues to date. I’d buy it again in a heartbeat.

We have a ducted 4 ton system hooked up to 2 air handlers. One for each floor of a standard colonial. It has been in place 2 1/2 years now and has worked flawlessly. In the summer we set it on one temp and leave it all summer running even when we are away for two months.. In the winter we found it performed best when we picked a temperature and left it set on that temperature all winter without adjusting it up or down. Last winter was one of the coldest I ever remember in the northeast and we even had weeklong spells of zero to negative and the system was able to maintain heat. However when the temp stays at 5 above or lower for extended periods we do notice the system struggles to maintain 70 degree inside temp.

We owned ours for about a year and a half and had to have a repair person out 3 times already. The warranty does not cover labor, so each time the labor bill has been in excess of $150. Now the control board is shot and it will take 6 days to order one and get it here and installed. In a nutshell, these Fujitsu mini splits are inferior systems. The warranty is a bad joke. Believe all the bad reviews and don’t waste your money. We paid about $6000 that I wish I had back.

we outfitted our entire house with mini splits from Fujitsu (3 outdoor units and 7 inside units) price including install/electric etc totaled $17,700!! but now we have central air and cheaper heat to supplement our expensive oil boiler. that was 3 years ago and so far so good. they units work quite well for A/C and pretty good for heat as well. they’re VERY efficient and quiet. there’s a few things that annoy me with them that I think Fujitsu could’ve done alot better with. 1. when in heating mode they defrost on a schedule weather they need it or not. when its very cold, they defrost pretty often which means alot of wear and tear on the system and a decent chunk of time where you have no heat coming from the unit.
    2. the temperature sensor in the unit is completely unreliable. I think it senses its own heat and shuts off instead of sensing the room’s heat. we have to keep them set to 74 just to keep the room at 70. if we set it to 72, they shut off and the temp drops to 65 in the house and they just sit there doing nothing! VERY annoying!
    3. the other problem is that when they think the room is warm enough, they shut off but while they’re off, freezing cold air trickles out. since they’re mounted high on the wall and in many places we’re sitting directly below them you get a nice shower of ice cold air all over you when it should be nice warm air.

    • Iceman says:

Sounds like an easy fix. Take a ladder, go outside where the lineset goes into the house and insulate the hole. This is the only place cold air can come from. Hope this helps

Our system was installed two years ago and consists of a single outdoor unit connected to three indoor units, one thing that is never explained by fujitsu is that you can not use auto mode if you have more than one indoor to one outdoor unit.
we live in an environment where we can use air conditioning going to bed but need heat in the morning, a huge design flaw to require getting up in the middle of the night to change all your units to heat.
Fujitsu is no help, suggestions were to buy a wifi controller so you could switch it from your cell phone (just what I want to do while on vacation)

Buyer beware! I had a Fujitsu Halcyon installed in a 500 sq ft room in 2014. Every time I switch from cooling to heating mode the unit goes into an error mode and shuts down. The error code is a “temperature discharge error”.

I’ve had an HVAC repairman here 4 times to reset it, change the part and drain and refill the freeon.

Fujitsu will NOT cover labor so any cost savings from efficiency are lost to labor costs.

I’m hoping there will be a class action suit filed at some point to get this rectified. A $4,000 unit should not have this much trouble.

I had a 24000btu init with (1) 15000btu wall unit installed on main floor and (1) 9000btu in a partially finished basement installed the first week of Dec. 2017. The system was very noisy and the outside compressor started with a bang that sounded like someone threw a rock at the house. Heat output was poor and the unit was always stopping and starting. The 15000btu unit would not bring our under 1000sq.ft. area up to 70 degrees. After our installer tried for weeks to get ok from Fujitsu to replace the compressor he went ahead and did it himself. Fujitsu warranty and customer service is poor at best.
Even after installing the new outside unit the heating is still far from what I expected. I leave the remote set at 88 degrees as the installer recommended and it still will not maintain more than 67-68 degess with outside temp at over 20F. This morning it was -10F and the temp in my living room next to the heater was 58F will no usable heat coming from the 15000btu unit. Good thing I have a 15000btu propane heat that brought it up to 70F within an hour.

Fujitsu is junk. I spent thousands on the system and in 4 years have spent around $5000 more trying to keep it running. Leaks from all over(I know the installer has a lot to do with that), blower fan replaced in 1.5 year, 3 evaporator coils replaced. Fujitsu gives installers certification then blames all the problems on them and does not help you get it repaired. Fujitsu customer service is terrible, they do not care if you get the system running properly. This is probably the worst purchase I have ever made. Do yourself a favor and run, don’t walk from any Fujitsu air conditioning product.

We installed 1 Fujitsu Mini split System in 2015 as a test and then added 23 more in 2016. Nearly all of the 23 have had at least 2 service calls some with 6 and some have had even 8 calls in a 2 year period. Error code A1 (Temperature discharge error) they are absolute junk and their support is the worst ever. The supplier told me today they have little or no issues and it must be the installers. HA! The flair fittings they use suck! They expand and contract in the heat mode causing refrigerant to leak. As an engineer I would not install a Fujitsu in a dog house. We changed HVAC technicians and the new group said they actually cut the flairs off and silver solder them for this complaint, if their customer insists on new Fujitsu install that seems to fix the leaking fitting problems. Now quite a few of the coils are all going bad and they are blaming moisture inside the coil not covering the warranty. 20% of the 90K install price has already been spent repairing these junk mini split systems. We expected them to last at least 10 years. Not have to spend that much fixing this junk… Buyers beware! If your installer offers or recommends a Fujitsu RUN THE OTHER WAY FAST! Oh and all the original installers are all certified by Fujitsu for training. Other brands even an inexpensive Gree units are less trouble than these.

Do not buy Fujitsu, i have had a unit down for over a month, no heat during the huge snow storm trolling America. CS has no idea what the issues is, and keeps asking for random items, sometimes the same things replaced. This seems to be a common experience with Fujitsu, stay away at all costs! We installed four Halcyon units in our beach house rental three years ago. Last summer, the loft unit had problem and it took a week to get the part. We had to pay for expedited shipping and repairs and it cost around $400. Now, the entire unit is down due to a power surge. It fried three parts. Again, it’s taking a week —in August in North Carolina—to get the parts. And we’ll have to pay for shipping and repairs again. Three years, two major repairs. But the worst part is that the company keeps changing the parts so they have to be shipped from all over the place and I guess they don’t ship over the weekend. (?) In this day, when I can order anything and have it on my doorstep in 1-2 days, this is NOT OKAY.

I purchased a $16,000 Fujitsu ducted ductless system and at year 6, three of the units have rust and leaks. They will only offer a new compressor that I have to pay to be installed. Then I have to buy 2 more coils. I have a wall mount unit that is currently fine but is known to fail. It appears the year after I bought my stuff they changed model numbers and increased the warranty from 5/7 to 10 year. This is sort of a smoking gun that they know they were making poor quality for awhile. I was their best advertiser now I litterky will go out of my way to not recommend them. They are business fools as the bad reputation is worse than the costs of repairs unless they have a systemic failure in their product. Look out if you buy this brand.

Do not purchase Fujitsu! Spent $50k on our system plus $25k in non-warranteed repairs over the last five years. Fujitsu inspected the system and said it was installed properly yet they would not give us a dime towards repairs. How’s that for terrible customer support. We have useless broken Fujitsu equipment and window units until we can convert to Mitsubishi. Shame on you Fujitsu.

Terrible equipment and experience. Had an 18k Halycon mini split installed in 2015. Cost $4,500 all in. I live in Maryland, so it’s not like an intense environment. Every single year since there has been a failure (it’s 2020 now). Just dropped another $1k this year for a valve, board and 3rd coil. Well over $3k in service charges to date. Warranty covers some parts, not all, and not labor. The same valves, coil, boards, condensate line insulation, you name it, over and over again. Poor design for condensation line routing frequently leaves my wall and floor below the unit wet. Total junk. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PRODUCT!

What junk! Paid a lot for these two 1 ton systems. Always something with these things. I have paid for them 3 times already since they only cover parts and not labor. 3 inside coils and one outside in 5 years, unacceptable! The second unit had the inside coil replaced too, and not the thermostat is acting up. I can not be more emphatic, do not buy this junk.
We installed three at work too, and the repair guy lives at the office.

Fujitsu does not stand behind it’s products. Our 4 head system hasn’t worked properly since being installed. Even the company that installed the system is frustrated with the lack of support from Fujitsu. I will never ever buy another product from this terrible company.

While a heat pump seems like a great idea in a house without duct work, so far we have heat and air conditioning only half the time. Not great when the temps here go down to -20C.

    Save your money. Don’t buy.

we have Fujitsu mini split AC units in our home. They have been nothing but problems from the install. It took time to diagnose but in the end it was leaking coils (it seems this is very common for Fujitsu). We have replaced all coils but new ones leak too, now we are faced with complete replacement. Fujitsu does not care they have been no help!!! DO NOT BUY FUJITSU #Fujitsu

In my opinion mediocre at best. Have them in two houses and whilst I don’t have the models in my experience they are inefficient, expensive to run, slow to start and have control panels that are frustrtaing and irritating to navigate and use.

My advice if you have the right property get a wood fire instead. I have one of these and love it. The Fujitsu hardly gets any use anymore.

They do not warrant the units. The Warranty Dept. will not answer the telephone or respond to an e mail. Two supply houses in my area quit selling the brand because they do not warrant the units. I recommend you find a different brand to buy. Yes, their profit will be higher short term but, long term they will make fewer sales. I agree they can do this and I can buy another brand. Apparently other people feel the same way. I do not recommend. 5/1/21

Installed Fujitsu Halcyon in 2008, 4 internal units ASU9RMLQ, one outside units. Main idea was to have quite AC in bedrooms.
3 out of 4 internal units started developing noise in about 2015/16. Multiple service visits, where every visit is $500+.

Main bedroom unit was fixed 2 years ago, issue came back after one year. Current issue affecting 2 units: fan speed on internal units randomly changes every 1-2 seconds.

I’m EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED with Fujitsu hardware and service technician training.

    AVOID Fujitsu mini splits.

My experience with Fujitsu Halcyon, installed in 2008, has been strongly negative.
One outside/4 inside units, purchased due to low noise in AC mode to be used in 3 bedrooms and 1 living rm.

After warranty expired – nothing but continuous problems. 3 out of 4 units had developed noise issues, and every visit by HVAC technicians was in $500-$1500 range. It seems problems come back after a year.

We are done with putting good money after bad, and will start looking for replacement.

Learn from others’ mistakes, do not consider Fujitsu.

Had to replace leaky condenser twice and now it needs it again. Every couple years the copper coils erode and all tests taken cannot substantiate a cause. No other copper in the home is affected. Goiing to the land fill at a 4K loss..
